Replacing the venerable Hobart Handler 135, the Hobart Handler 140 comes straight out of the box ready to weld. It can be used both with and without gas, and it performs flawlessly using any of the following wires: mild steel wire, stainless steel wire, solid wire, flux cored wire, or many of the aluminum wires. A great thing for the home user is that this MIG welder runs off of standard household 115 volt power. If you’re going to be welding different materials, or different thicknesses, it has four output voltage settings, wire feed tracking, and a purge setting. These settings enable you to quickly and easily make adjustments that will allow you to weld a much wider variety of materials or thicknesses. The Hobart Handler 140 can weld from 24 gauge up to 1/4″ inch steel, and you won’t have to worry about burn-through.
One of the great safety features that it has is a built-in contactor. This keeps you safer by keeping the welding wire non-energized, or cold, when you’re not squeezing the trigger. That means no unexpected shocks, or arc strikes when you least expect them.
Another great safety feature that it has is a self-resetting thermal overload. This safety feature is provides protection to the welder, and will not allow you to use it beyond its maximum operating limits. If you try to weld longer than recommended, the welder will heat up, and the thermal overload will shut your welder down, thus preventing damage to the wiring inside. Once the temperature has cooled back down to a safe operating level, the thermal overload device will reset, and you’ll be able to weld again.
The welder is ultra reliable and uses Hobart’s proven built-in wire feeder. This feeder has a quick-release drive roll lever that makes switching wire size simple and reliable. With this feeder, it’s possible to use wire sizes .023″, .025″, .030″, and .035″. And if you need to swap polarity, you won’t have any problems due to the extremely easy access.
