In 1895, John Lincoln started out manufacturing electric motors and formed the Lincoln Electric Company. He was joined by his brother James around 1900, and in 1909 they had produced the world’s first portable welding machine with variable voltage. In 1914, James took over the company and by 1922, the company’s focus had shifted to welders, producing more of them than electric motors.

Throughout the years Lincoln diversified and grew, moving into the consumable wire business and expanding globally. They stayed true to their roots though and continued to produce some of the highest quality welders available. Lincoln has grown into a global leader that continues to manufacture some of the best welders, consumables, and welding related equipment available today.
